Boynton Beach Man Struck by Police Car, Killed While Crossing Highway

A man was killed while attempted to walk across a highway in Boynton Beach, Florida.

The victim, a 40-year-old male who lived in Boynton Beach, died after being struck by a car as he attempted to move across Interstate-95 during the early morning hours. According to law enforcement, the victim was hit by a police patrol vehicle while he tried to walk across the southbound lanes of I-95, in the area of Donald Ross Road in Boynton Beach, FL.

It is believed that the victim may have been walking on the highway after he parked his car on the shoulder of the road. At this time, it is unclear why the suspect parked his car in that spot.

The motorist who crashed into the victim is a police officer with the Florida Highway Patrol. The Florida cop was behind the wheel of a 2015 Dodge Charger and traveling south on I-95 when he saw the pedestrian and tried to swerve out of the way. However, the patrol officer was unable to avoid the victim and ended up crashing into him on the roadway.

By the time other law enforcement officer and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene of the pedestrian accident, it was too late to do anything for the victim. Emergency medical responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene of the crash.

The Jupiter Police Department issued a statement after the accident to indicate that the police officer who struck the pedestrian had just finished a work shift and was traveling home at the time of the car crash.

The victim owned a carpentry business and resided in Boynton Beach, FL. He is survived by his parents, four siblings, and one daughter.

Florida police are currently investigating the fatal car accident. No criminal charges or traffic citations have been issued, although the investigation remains active and ongoing. Regardless of the outcome of the police investigation into the car crash, it is possible that the victim’s family members could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the police officer who struck the victim.
