Widow of Jim Carrey’s Former Girlfriend Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit against the Actor

Hollywood superstar Jim Carrey is the defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit that was recently filed in a Los Angeles courtroom.

Mark Burton, the plaintiff in the wrongful death action, is the widowed husband of Cathriona White. White dated Carrey while she was still married to Burton. Tragically, White died as a result of suicide when she overdosed on prescription drugs at her LA apartment in September 2015. White was just 30 years at the time of her death.

Carrey and White had dated for quite some time prior to her tragic drug overdose, with the couple reportedly breaking up just one week before she killed herself. After Cathriona White’s death was announced, Carrey issued a statement in which he called her “a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil.” Carrey also reportedly served as a pallbearer at White’s funeral.

Now Burton has filed a wrongful death suit against Carrey because the actor allegedly supplied White with the painkillers that ultimately led to her fatal overdose. In the legal paperwork filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Burton alleges that Carrey illegally obtained the prescription narcotics and then carelessly distributed them to White. Burton even goes so far as to claim that Carrey used his “immense wealth and celebrity status” to get the drugs in the first place.

The fatal mix of prescription drugs reportedly included Ambien, Percocet, and Propranolol. Carrey allegedly obtained the drugs by using the fake name “Arthur King.”

Carrey has already issued a statement in response to the wrongful death lawsuit, calling it “a terrible shame” and declaring that he plans to vigorously defend himself against the “evil” allegations being made against him by Burton. Carrey also said that he was not to blame for White’s drug addiction or her tragic end because these things were “beyond anyone’s control.”

Additionally, Carrey strongly implied that the wrongful death action by Burton was an attempt to profit from White’s death. Although a wrongful death action can never undo the pain of losing a loved one, it is often the best way to ensure that some kind of justice is obtained in these kinds of cases. When a person acts negligently and causes someone’s death, as Carrey is alleged to have done, it is important that the negligent individual is held accountable for their actions. It will certainly be interesting to see whether the facts support the wrongful death action filed against Jim Carrey.
